Are Oracle on the verge of buying Novell?
Yeah I know ... another /. type thing . I just thought it was an interesting idea as Novell own SuSE. Anyway, what do you think? The article is on this Welsh news site.
I just think that when a CE opens his mouth to the press it's already well in the pipeline. ??I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it. - Pablo Picasso

I think that it is more than likely, given the fact that they cannot gain market share on Microsoft. So, in order to take on the the mighty giant, they will do so from the well established Linux camp. Porting Oracle to Linux and now seeking to own their own distribution channels is a solid business plan. Oracle has the marketing power and the $$$ to really promote Linux.

i think it would be a bad move for oracle to buy novel. there is a lot of extra baggage aligned with buying novel. oracle would do better with buying or modifying distro with a big community base and little amount of resources in other fields. a guy recently stated that ubuntu would be a good choice. on a side note doesnt larry ellison have a wierd looking face. what sucks if oracle loses ground to microsoft is that microsofts database is not as good as oracle. i have developed for both and by far oracle is the champ. however oracle is phenominally more expensive but you get what you pay for.
edit:as it turns out ellison never said he was even considering buying novel or red hat. the full transcript of the interview revealed that. he was interested in a linux distro and they looked at what it would mean to buy novell or red hat but realized it to be a waste of money.
