    Linux Free Standards Group????

I received an Email that a bunch of Linux distributors ( FSG ) were collaborating to produce a sort of Universal Linux OS! Has any other LinuxForum member heard of such a thing? Is there somewhere to get more information?

Rumblings and rumors of this sort of thing surface from time to time. First it was UnitedLinux (now dead), then the Linux Standards Base (still alive AFAIK), then the Debian Core Consortium (got in a fight over the name "Debian")... If anyone succeeds at it, more power to them.

After posting this thread I have learned that Xandros will be the first to come out with LSB, 3.1 on May 1, 2006; with Novell, Red Hat, Debian, plus Ubuntu to follow.
There is a web site: http://www.freestandards.org
    Jim Zemlin - Executive Director

Associated Press has filed a story. The Web site contains quite a list of affiliates.

After being informed that this group has been at this for five years I am not as optimistic about their new product. Oh well!!
