Also a newbie, been hearing about Linux for years from techie friends, decided I'd like to know what it is all about. Want to show them I can learn to talk the talk to LOL.
Looks like this is a really smart group here.

Thanks for the welcome, and the witty penguin reference. Guess I need to find a penguin avatar now.
As a kid penguins were my favorite animal, coincidence or am I destined to be a Linux suppoter among the non-programmers?

Hello PenguinHappy.
I'm pretty new to Linux too, though my boyfriend (who shall be designated 'Mr L' for the purposes of maintaining his secret identity) has had it on our computers for years, so I've been a passive Linux user for about 4 years now.
The other day, I thought I'd learned enough to ne able to compile somethig, but nuh-uh! More study & practice is needed!
I just so want to impress Mr L with my Linux skillz!

Thanks for the welcome and luv the avatar.
That passive user expression is pretty good too. So how long has Mr. L been using Linux? I'm always curious when people jump on technology bandwagons, how they learn about it, etc.
Do you know how to do any other techie stuff?
