Debate: Life after death...
Don't ask me why, but I felt like starting a debate, and that is one of the subjects that came to my mind, what are your thoughts about it?
If you plan on flaming other people's opinions, then don't post at all for the sake of this forum and your own. Any post that gets out of subject or is harsh in any way will be deleted and its owner warned. I just want to know people's opinions about different matters in life, since you know, there are other things than Linux we can discuss here...

I think it's overrated. Depending on what you believe in, either you:
1. wander about clouds listening to harp music.
2. get poked up the backside with a sharp stick.
3. get your own harem of a bunch of virgins(OK, it sounds nice, but I feel badly for all those poor virgins - what a crappy gig!).
4. have to come back and start all over again.
On the whole, I'd rather go to New York, which now that I think of it, includes all of the above.

I used to be sure that there'd be a life after death. I didn't expect to be myself; some kind of hazy returning-to-the-universal-energy affair or re-incarnation. Only getting one chance seemed like a bit of a waste of time.
These days I am less sure, mostly because I can't reconcile the fact that I have no pre-birth experences. Of course, it didn't help that when I mentioned the universal energy theory to someone else they said "Ah, you seek to return to the womb." Armchair psychology strikes again.
I don't like the purely physical take on things. On the other hand, a brief flash of existence may not suit my world view but nature has an annoying habit of not taking my opinions into account. It could be argued that the universal energy theory is what happens in the physical world, because everything that makes up me will be returned to the earth, from which everything else gets its matter and energy, at least indirectly. It seems odd that the hazy version from the first paragraph is somewhat comforting but the version which can actually be measured isn't. I guess it's just nice to think that someone somewhere will catch me when I fall.
In summary, I'm not sure, but I will find out the definitive answer one day, even if there isn't a me to know about it afterwards.
OK, I've monopolised people's screens for long enough. It's someone else's turn.
Chris...To be good, you must first be bad. "Newbie" is a rank, not a slight.
- 05-01-2006 #4i never liked the whole bunch of virgins deal because i have enough to deal with my one wife cant imagine that many women together in one room. they would drive a man insane. plus they are only virgins once so whats the point

The mods and Core Wizard have milled this thread over and decided that the potential for flames is much too high for it to continue.
