    It's satire. Aside from the subject "Internet Idiocy", there's an article on the side called "Writing Satire for a Technical Audience".

    Lol! It reads like satire as well ... I think the part about the spanking is what made me realise that it might be You get this picture of an all American dad (woolly sweater, apple pie on the table, hair slicked back) outraged at a betrayal of trust. Wow! My son is growing up: can't have that can we?

    Do you mean that this article was written as a joke? Because if not, then, although I've never done anything illegal (except maybe some copyright issues), I'll have to inform my mother that I am a "computer hacker" so that she can be bitterly disapointed in me.
    IMO the Linux community should move away from using the word hacker because it gets missinterpreted by other people as cracker, therefore linux must be used for illegal purposes, in their mind. Yes, it sucks to have to compromise because of other people's missinformation.

    Satire
    1. A composition, generally poetical, holding up vice or
    folly to reprobation; a keen or severe exposure of what in
    public or private morals deserves rebuke; an invective
    poem; as, the Satires of Juvenal.
    1913 Webster

    2. Keeness and severity of remark; caustic exposure to
    reprobation; trenchant wit; sarcasm.
    1913 Webster

    Syn: Lampoon; sarcasm; irony; ridicule; pasquinade;
    burlesque; wit; humor.
    1913 Webster Satiric

    I agree that the term hacker is totally lost what it used to mean and has become to mean cracker. However you can't stay bound to what words wons ment at one point in time or I would call myself gay for being happy and say I wanted to suck on a fag every time I wanted to smoke.
