A wrist slap for Jeanson James Ancheta!
I guess here is a perfect example of the punishment not living up to the crime. I would have imposed a sentence of Thirty Years To Life upon this creep. Others I have talked to say he should be put to death immediately.

For those of us like me who haven't the foggiest idea who this Ancheta fellow is, here's an article:

Just expressing a victims passion for revenge. I was informed that I should be mad at Microsoft and HP for selling me a very vulnerable computer in the first place. Like so many others; without any knowledge of how computers and their operating systems work, I was just another chump waiting to be abused.

I don't think this guy should be sentenced to death, that is a little harsh.
But, as the article said he could have gotten up to 25 years in prison.
He definitely shoud have gotten that. How to know if you are a geek.

I'm sure this guy is a low life, but my view is that it shouldn't be possible for this to happen in the first place. Maybe society is (at least partly) demonising someone for its own sins?? That doesn't mean that I don't think he's responsible for his own actions ... But ever since the Mitnik case it's been clear that what someone can do with an anonymous log-in and a computer someone eventually will do.
Just my ... errr . two groats worth.

I'm sure you don't mean it this way but if a typical lawmaker were to read the above I think their response would be "Right, we need to start passing more laws restricting free access to computers".
