Hello! I know where you're coming from. I've never been a smoker but I am a human being and I hear what you say. I've heard some Johnny Cash (I like his 'Nine Inch Nails' cover) and he was a singer I could relate to. I don't know much about country music, but as someone pointed out once on this forum, in the UK we don't get exposed to it very much.

IMHO the best country show we have over here is by Bob Harris. Find him here.

genesus i would be trapped in my building at work if i were to avoid some smokers because they smoke outside the freakin door. i say if i have to walk thru a cloud then you have the problem not me. i agree that if there is a buddy that smokes i have the option of walking away. but if i am in a resturaunt and i having a nice dinner the last thing i want is to smell smoke. i always was upset that people would tell me to just not go to the bar because people cant go 5 minutes without the addiction becoming too much. i would have to be trapped in my home so that i could respect smokers right to smoke? entirely unfair considering smokers are in the minority. i dont think there should be laws honestly but that it ought to be common courtesy to leave the cigg's at home. Personal responsibility is what people should consider like my fart in the elevator comment. if you dont want me farting at your table at the local eatery why would i want to smell your ciggs there. my final word "Smoke at Home its better that way for everyone!".

ps i dont consider johnny cash and kris kristopherson country music so i have an excuse to listen to them. the stuff i hate is the more recent incarnation of whiney my baby left me music. which really applies to the boy bands too really. rap isnt music so i never include it because of that. I like janis joplin too even though she isnt country she sang some songs written by kristopherson.

hehe, good point 'sponti, just to include a quote from Kristoffersson's first album "if it sounds country that's what it is, it's a country song" And there ain't nothing wrong with whiny country, ala Hank Williams; however, I don't like pop in any genre...

and nothing feels better than going to a bar a little high, getting piss drunk and chain smoking cigarrettes...hehe, the days before responsibility!

I recently (two months ago) quit smoking marijuana. No big deal at all, just stopped buying the stuff so I could get my grades up a bit. I did notice that I had temporary insomnia for about a week but other than that, nothing. I was expecting mood swings and stuff but they never came.

I dislike cigs because the smoke is just gross from them, I really don't like it when people smoke in a restaurant because it's closed in, but if someone is smoking outside I don't care because the wind picks it up.

If cannabis was legal in the US I'd smoke it outside, maybe I'm contradicting myself but marijuana smoke is smoothe compared to a cigarette.

What comprises real Country Music? Those of us who appreciate it have been asking ourselves this very question for quite some time. I've discussed this with other Country listeners and have arrived at this conclusion: If rural Southern people cannot identify with the lyrics in a song that purports to be "country," then it isn't truly Country Music. That is not to say non Southerners can't appreciate it because many of them do. But the simple fact remains that Country Music was born in the South, thrives in the South and will only survive as long as Southerners continue to appreciate it. If they don't, then all the steel guitars, fiddles and singing through the nose in the world won't make it what it wasn't to begin with.

I quit smoking fifteen years ago. Now I am allergic to burning tobacco and the chemicals in a smoker's clothes. My eyes water up, my nose runs, and my throat feels like course sandpaper is being used on it. I gave up drinking sixteen years ago and I am now also bothered by the smell of alcohol.

While I was smoking and drinking I did not question the reasons I was addicted to that type of behavior. I now have a different perspective and realize that smoking and drinking allowed me to keep my illusions. I do not harbor any ill will for any human being that does things because they do not know any better. I just do my best to avoid them.

Human beings are very complex organisms and, like microsoft OS, we have multiple vulnerabilities. Choosing to rein in those vulnerabilities; and then keeping them under control, is a very, very difficult undertaking. Everyday Life can evolve into a curse that individuals are not able to comfortably cope with so they therefor find one crutch or another to lean on. The crutch can be anything: food, drink, or chemicals etc.

Just my personal opinion here and not a statement of fact!!
