    Yes in theory. You need to pay careful attention to cooling and air flow through your case. Your CPU fan also has to be the right spec to cool your chip ... If you've flashed your BIOS you also need to be sure that you have the right BIOS support available.

    My computer was obviously running hot for a while without me realising it, and the extra fan only cost me a few pounds. The increase in stability and performance has been significant. This might be handy. Cooling and airflow are worth considering in depth to increase the life of your hardware.

    Next time I build (maybe a year from now) I'll put rubber washers between the fans and the case to decrease some of the noise ... assuming my case design allows this. Also consider using high quality thermal compound (paste) between your heatsink and chip.

    Sounds to me like a nasty overheat has fried the on-the-processor info, tbh, id just buy a 3200+ off ebuyer, there only £80, and rather nippy. My redhat box is running one.

    Edit: For cooling id suggest the zalman super flower, i have one on my Athlon 4400+ , and boy is it good, really nice and quiet to.
