    get past college proxy

    hi i need to get past the proxy at college so i can use bit torrent client there and get to any site. in firefox i have to type in atams02 and put port 8080 and i need i sort of tunneling software to get past this and to a remote proxy. i have tried www.http-tunnel.com and it was slow then something happened it refused to connect again. does anyone know of any other software that does this sort of thing?

    Can you ssh out? If you can ssh to (say) your own PC at home, you could set up your own squid proxy and forward traffic along the ssh pipe - nobody will be able to read any of the data 'cos it's all going to be encrypted.

    kinda sounds a bit illegal, most colleges and libraries etc have a clause to agree to use only for acedemic use. cant see how bittorent is needed for acedemic use.. if it is then im sure your sys ad would open up the ports for you.

    can u give me some help on using tor. ive installed it. i have to connect through 192.168.7.6 with a user and pass and i need to know where to put this. thanks in advance.
