I've always assumed it was a silent G (so pronounced nome), but having had a quick search it appears that guh-nome is the official pronounciation, but it also seems that a large proportion of people, possibly even the majority, prefer to say it as tho it were a small humanoid creature, and that no-one has sought people out to take revenge because of incorrect pronounciation...

Yeah I often feel like a tool saying it. But then again the G would only be silent in english and this is an international project. A buddy of mine misread the pronunciation instructions and says it more like 'genome'.

I agree, "ga-nome" sounds silly. I pronounce it the way the dictionary pronounces it: "Nome." But just like Linux (which I pronounce 'Lih-nucks'), there are going to be people vehement about their pronunciation. So, short answer? You pronounce it however you like.

I say 'nome' ... I would feel silly saying 'Ga-nome' and it never occured to me that there was another way to say it.
