    Elephants Dream

I wonder if anyone had the chance to download (or purchase) the "open source movie" Elephants Dream?
The purpose of the movie was show the abilities of FOSS software.

There were some excellent elements. I thought the textures (the hair was top notch) and audio were excellent. It really had the feel of a commercial movie. There were some problems with fast movements (looks kinda jumpy) and the audio syncing with the mouths were off. Also, the story left me with a WTF feeling.

But as a showcase of what software like the gimp, blender, etc... can do, I thought it was excellent.

technically, it's an achievement. Specially for FOSS in the graphic area. At least it would open some people mind a little bit wider. ALOT of people underestimated FOSS ; just because it's free (as in free beer in this matter).

The visual artistic side of this movie is great I say. But for the movie itself, the truth is the animation still looks a bit off. I think the story is a phylosophical one, but i don't get what it's all about.

What makes me excited is, elephant dreams will boost blender capabilities as during the process blender has gone through intense stress test (which I never been able to do). 2.42 will be a major version update. To name the few, things like better IPO driver and node based interface will be added.

I tried downloading it last night, but it was taking a while so I went to bed. When I got up this morning the download had failed. I'll have another go tonight.

Buy the dvd. Trust me, it's worth it. The DVD don't just provide the movie, but everything they use in the production process. I'm planning to buy the DVD perhaps next month or so.

Nice idea! It can be ordered from the Blender Foundation here.
