woo! rejoice my fellow EU linuxers! the final follower of software patents has fallen!
ok, not that dramatic, but the EC has finally rejected software patents to step in line with the EU's refusal of the directive
Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?

I'm not sure if I ever mentioned this here, but I personally wrote a letter to Charlie McCreevy asking him not go ahead with this. I got a letter back from him (well a secretary) assurnig me it would not go ahead. I may actually post it up here, it was quite interesting. He basically said he had backed off the idea of software patents but would still want patent law in place and for the benefit of all rather than corporations etc. I originally intended to write a one liner but I was pretty angry at the time and wrote a few paragraphs. It was cool to at least get a detailed response. Though I did get a week's notice that they were looking at it. It's great that they're gone anywho.

yay this is great news... i really hated the idea of the patents

personally, when i look for an OS, I want to see some of the same features in most of them and not every single one be completely different...
