Hello all, I was wondering if anyone knows of a link I could use to get information on how to make backups of my purchased DVD movies using linux??

Other than installing software that reads dvds and allows us to see dvd movies on our boxes, I need software that will allow me to make backups of them. You know these dvds are so expensive I'd have to lose one and not have a backup..... :P

There is one major problem with that - most DVDs that you buy are dual-layer DVDs, and most DVD-Rs that you can buy are single-layer ones (in fact, I've never seen dual-layer DVD-Rs in stores anywhere). Thus, a bought DVD usually doesn't fit on a DVD-R that you buy. You will probably have to re-encode it in order to work. See the mencoder program from for a pointer on how to do that.
