My desktop machine is like that. My laptop came with ATI built in.

For CPUs, I go with whatever's the better deal. For a long time, that was AMD; now Intel is turning that around.

In video, ATI is hardly considered an option. Nvidia clearly has the upper hand if you want good 3D performance, and Matrox has always been the brand of choice for open source purists who want the best image quality and don't need 3D.

I'm pretty sure there was a poll on this a while back. Perhaps someone could resurrect it. As for me, I have both AMD and Intel machines with both Nvidia and ATI cards in them. For Linux I prefer AMD/Nvidia.

I have always went for the best price/performance processor but I have always used nvidia. One Desktop is Intel/Nvidia and other 2 are AMD/Nvidia.

    Wink

Not a big hardware junkie so I don't have any loyalties, but both my desktop and laptop are running Intel (p4 3.0ghz HT & p3-M 850mhz) and the desktop is running an ATI X800 SE - got it right when it came out. I had to wait 2 weeks before getting my computer because Dell was waiting for their first shipment.
I love the graphics card - it was the first release of ATIs "next gen cards" and I havn't had a single problem with it - I get superb graphics for games and video. Never had a driver problem on any distro of linux either.

*hrm - not sure how that winkie guy got in the subject line lol...
/me doesn't remember putting him there.
