    Thanks for letting us know!

    Works nicely indeed!

I had to install ttf-bitstream-vera so Google Earth would stop complaining though.

Seems it relies heavily on Wine, like Google's Picasa for Linux.

I'm at a loss for words. In a good way, of course. This is the one and only app I've been waiting for which has yet to come out for linux.

    /runs of to download

EDIT: First impression: works OK, though I see I will really have to install 3D drivers for my Radeon The new interface is nice, though I can't find the 'set north' button? The install is VERY easy, though I can't wait for an ebuild to come out (there's one for picassa, though it's masked).

here's an ebuild you can use in your portoverlay directory. Though it's so easy to install I don't see the need per se but it is nice to just emerge googlearth.

I don't think it relies on wine at all. I don't even have wine installed on my laptop and it works just fine. You definetely need 3d rendering support or else it would be incredibly slow.

    That's not what I meant.

Just like you don't need Wine to run Picasa, you don't need it to run Google Earth. But it does rely on Wine libraries to run (they are integrated in the program) :

    Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.

I still think it is pretty fast then especially given the reliance on these libraries.

Oh yeah. CodeWeavers did a great job on that. Very fast indeed.

I just installed the .bin file and it seems to be working fine - no problems so far, anyway.

Everytime I run it on my 'amd 64 nvidia geforce FC5-64 with livna nvidia package' box it crashes with the following error on the splash screen

Google Earth has caught signal 11.

    Stacktrace from glibc:
    ./googleearth-bin(__gxx_personality_v0+0x212) [0x804ab32]
    ./googleearth-bin [0x804b133]
    [0xffffe500]
    /usr/lib/nvidia/libGLcore.so.1 [0x4be82447]

    Any suggestions???
