Sure these people can be jerks in their own time, I agree there. I mean a hell a lot of people like Woody Allen's works and that guy is just not savoury. But these guys are always fighting for takeup of their product en masse and for the corporate world to take notice. But hey if you can't have some level of civility, or in the case of RMS at least stick to the tenets of what you preach instead of branching out to unrelated matters....

I'm not arguing that issues like DRM don't matter, they do and should be met head on. I do however think it is irresponsible and inconsiderate to take a group in a direction that it was not founded for as this expects it's members to agree without consultation and further actually harms the original issues by diluting them. Next time you bring up Free Software and someone says "Aren't those the weirdos that dress in hazmat suits and protest against the media industry?" can you really argue that this is a purely Free Software issue and defend their actions? Noone likes a career protester.

my way of dealing with zealous jerks is to complain about it in my blog lol. I thought for a while there that only BSD variants were going to be allowed software legally for DRM usage but it seems like companies are willing to work now even with GPLed software if they can figure out how. I still think the Movie and Recording companies have too much power over the US government.
