DSL I like it
I just installed DSL last night and it reminded me of the ease of install. I still have a few things to get used to but so far it's good.
Gaming won't be a priority but web surfing (forums, communities, email, etc), multimedia and data burning will be. If I can all of these working properly, I'll be happy. I'll even order a couple of CD's from DSL just to say thanks.
The Desktop is more my style as well. I don't like Desktops that remind me of pencil-crayon or crayon colouring books.
The menus are just a right-click away, which is great. You don't have two or three task bars taking up space. There's a system resources metering feature on by default.
All in all, I like it. Time will tell if I stick with it.

Yeah, DSL is a nice little distro. You might want to make sure you got version 3.0.1 that just came out yesterday.

The only thing I dislike about DSL is SATA support. I think it because they use 2.4 kernel. Otherwise I would have it on my rescue USB stick. Now I have Minimax for that purpose

You may want to try DSL-N http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/dsl-n/ which has the 2.6 kernel. I have it on a USB stick and I am very happy with it.
