found this the other day....and...i seriously dont know what to make of it. its probably the most useless piece of software ever writen.

although it may be usefull for introducing kindergarden toddlers to computers, i seriously see no other use.

Sort of like the XGL. The rubber-like windows are fun to play with, but that's it.

Shouldn't be so pesimistic. For client presentations this could be sort of neat stuffs specially those clients who don't care about IT development. You know, they would like, wow, very professional, very innovative presentations.

but for daily use, I dunno either. But it's still under very early stage of development, so who knows.

Yeah...it looks kinda cool, but it doesn't seem like it would be a huge hit with a ton of people.

I do note that they don't address how actual stuff gets done. When I open Firefox, does the window obscure the desktop? Is the window interacted with in the form shown in the video?

It's interesting but I agree with Cabhan about getting things done. It seems more complex than the existing desktop metaphor we're all so used to. As for the 'Exploding Piles Technique' at the end ... Sounds painful! They need to develop some better terminology and not take themselves so seriously.

I suppose one day something will come along to replace the way we already work, but it won't be this ... Having said that, you can't help thinking that there's at least one or two ideas in that package which might work out.

I completely agree. Try to organize or find a document with this toy if you have hundreds of pdfs and odt files - and none are displayed with a name! Sorry, this is completely useless eyecandy and will never make it to a business desktop, nor to a home-desktop.

seems to be way to much just for file managment. i use xfce where you dont have desktop icons, all application launchers are neatly organized in a menu when you right click, and all other files are in you home directory. if i want to organize them i just create a new folder. just seems like they took the idea of making a simpler solution to the desktop problem and ended up with a realy neato but usless game.

OMG, that is absolutely hilarious. What's frightening is the seriousness and earnest work that's been put into it. Incredibly wrong-headed.

My favourite part was when he's bumping documents into each other and they're tumbling with a poor-man's rigid body dynamics and he says they "interact in a realistic manner". Umm, buddy, paper is NOT a rigid body,and they don't auto-stack!

I honestly can't even imagine a single person that would seriously see an advantage of sticking with that model for any extended amount of time, except for the "it's the first one I used and I don't like change" types.

well parts of that code and ideas could come in handy further down the line. i reckon it'l be one of those cases of dont knock it till you've tried it, but it does look a bit O.T.T. at the moment.
