Easily Install Linux from Windows
INSTLUX
I found this the other day. Now anyone who's sick of windows can download a little application and be on a linux system without any technical work at all in about 30 minutes!
It's only for OpenSUSE and ubuntu atm.

What other distro would you need? Those are the better choices for new users in my opinion. Thanks for the link, I will share as I convert other users.

actually, that's a good point - hadn't thought of it. I've never tried OpenSUSE, but Ubuntu is definitely an easier switch from windows than most. It would freak some first timers out if the installer dumped you into a FreeBSD system without X, haha!

Yea I used that nifty little app a while back on this lappy before I got myself an external cd drive. Worked great and got ubuntu 5.10 dual-booting next to XP in no time, problem free.

whats hard about an installer, the ubuntu 6.06 installer is easy as hell without some lame exe file to do it for you, you just pop in the cd and double click the icon and do what you need to do (click next several times), the only point of this is if you dont have a cdrom...
- 06-27-2006 #6I don't believe it's intended to be a replacement to current installation - just an alternate option. The idea of downloading an extremely small program that, when executed, will allow you to choose from numerous different linux distributions. Then after making your selection it'll restart the computer and start the entire process for you. No removable storage required. Of course it has its downs - but it's nothing short of a great idea. Opens possibilities to people like me when I needed it - I had limited linux knowledge, no cd drive and a bios unable to boot USB. And beyond that it removes the need to download large and bloated ISOs only to burn them onto environmentally-unfriendly CDs.
