Yes or No? this is my current desktop:

    http://img431.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screen2ny.jpg

i was just wondering whether to use KDE for a change of pace (a slower one ). help me decide.
Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?

Nah, coming from where you are now, I think you'd just be frustrated with KDE's pace.

Nothing against KDE--I use it myself and love it. It just looks like you've got a really comfy setup. It would probably take a while to get KDE customized in a way that suits you as nicely as what you already have, if it can even be done. (Of course, this is all assuming that your setup really does suit you as nicely as the pictures suggest.)

    It depends on your computer.
Kde can take quite a long time to compile, depending on your use flags
you could have 120 or so dependencies.
Whereas you can compile a "box" in just a few minutes.

But, if you don't mind long compile times I personally recommend Kde
as long as you have a decent computer.

I am going to sound silly here, but if you want a bigger desktop environment then maybe enlightenment 17?

Yeah try e16, e17, windowmaker, *box.
Personally I like Gnome over KDE also. I feel I can customise it more.

just a note: i don't like fluxbox. something was broken and i got flamed when i tried to ask for help so i'll never use it again. i know KDE is slow, but so is OOo (apparently) and i've got that loading up pretty quickly, so i reckon i could get KDE to move at a reasonable pace.

If I were you, I wouldn't drop fluxbox only because someone flamed you 'cause you asked for help. That's rather stupid. Stick to flux, try to solve the problem. If they flame you at the Gentoo forums, then use another forum where the "flame-factor" is not as high (here for example). Or ask the questions in a different way that reduces the chances of an up-and-coming flame-war.

this was on the #fluxbox channel on freenode. i know what was broken but i didn't know how to fix it. apparently they didn't either so they flamed me. i was already interested in xfce at the time so i ditched flux and have no desire to go back to it.
