All my drives are SATA. So, yes, I'm using a SATA Cd-ROM drive too.

Interesting question. I haven't yet upgraded to all-SATA. How's the compatibility on SATA optical drives in Linux as opposed to regular old IDE? Another thing that's kept me from upgrading is my current motherboard, which only has 2 SATA plugs. The one I have in mind to upgrade to will solve this problem.

from my experience, sata cdrom drives are a little behind. when i first got it a year ago i had to do some changes in the atapi defines in the source code.

now it is fully recognized by the newer kernel, (2.6.12 and up) however i havent been able to burn with it. dont know if im doing something wrong but its kind of expensive not to be burning things.

other then that though it realy is nice having no ide cables.

That was perhaps the number one reason I replaced my harddrives with SATA: no more big gray flat IDE cables taking up space in my box. Plus the orange SATA cables I have look nice under my case LEDs.

ya, ide cables realy suck. they just end up in a big air clogging mess that makes you wish you bought a case without a side window.

Well, I'm TRYING to use a SATA CD-ROM right now, setting up Debian on a new machine. Not really working out, though.
