Interesting! How much room did Knoppix need on your USB stick? It was the first distro I used which I really liked.

697MB on a 1GB Lexar JumpDrive. I also have it on a 2GB Verbatim which I like a lot because it is compatible with Linux... My upcoming project is to create a Slax USB pendrive...

Currently I am trying to figure out how to create a persistent image on the very same USB pendrive that I use to boot Knoppix but nowhere have I found that [Tipical procedures recommend booting from a LIVE CD and have the persistent image on a separate USB pendrive or my hard-drive but not in the very same device I am using to boot Knoppix... Unless there is a cheat code I haven't explored...]

Thanks daacosta! I've been toying with the idea of booting a distro from a pen drive as well, but I was thinking more about using DSL. The Knoppix idea really appeals to me.

Would this be of any use?

Hmmm... Not quite... I have already created the bootable pendrive but what I am trying to do is rare and if I can't make it I have an alternative that I can test.

To create the bootable knoppix I followed the tutorial from www.pendrivelinux.com (with Techiemoe's permission to post this here... If not please erase the appropriate parts... Ah! I started getting into Knoppix after reading Techiemoe's review...)

I broke this out into its own thread. Discuss all you like.

I recently installed Knoppix to a USB flash drive and made it have auto hardware detection and readwrite capability.

    Talking

    Same here

What I did was the following:

    Code:
    #mount -o remount,rw /cdrom
    #mount --bind /cdrom /media/sda1
From the forums at knoppix's website...

I was able to save all my configuration files and home directory on my USB pendrive. Quite nice! I am intrigued by puppy linux b/c you don't have to tweak a lot to get it to work the way you want and Techiemoe has given this distro good marks...

Well I used the knoppix graphical installer, and installed it to the usb pendrive and then later made it rewritable and auto hardwaredection so i could carry it around anywhere and have it autoconfigure the hardware in any computer, however there is something not so good about this which is that after about 1000000 readwrites the drive will die...
