What If?
If Windows were free (as in open) --
Would you hack it?
-- to make it more secure?
-- to make it more efficient (i.e. remove the bloat)?
-- to bring its 'technology' up to date?
Or would you --
-- point to all its flaws and send people on to GnuLinux?
-- post a blog on all of its interconnected flaws and security risks?
-- not even bother with it?
Would you --
-- send BG a 'thank you' note?
-- send BG a 'thanks but no thanks' note?
-- ignore it?
In your opinion, would it be --
-- a ploy to gain the trust / approval of the open source community?
-- a real effort to drive OS development forward?
-- somewhere between the two?
This is just a bit of a 'What if?' It probably is caused by a life long habit of reading 'what if' type stories, i.e. science fiction. It has no foundation in any truth, for as we all know, a monopolistic empire does not open itself to anything that may have any chance of removing its monopoly.
