SLED 10 Finally Released
YAY! I have been waiting for the final release for a while now. If you have not already tried it. you are definately missing out. I must say that the GUI is very impressive, not to mention very well thought out.
YAY for SLED 10, And yes Novell does have a downloadable version available, however you need to buy a license to get the updates.
License is VERY reasonable

I'm thinking of trying it out. What's the deal with multimedia apps? Are they crippled in SLED? I don't think I'll install over my SUSE 10.1 box because I have it running sweet. Especially the nightly compiz-quinn XGL builds, and the update problems fixed.
On the other hand I installed the new style SLED menu on Ubuntu on my laptop and while I think it is nice, I haven't taken to it fully. I think I had really gotten used to the three menu setup of Gnome. What's the deal on ATI/nVidia drivers?

well, it is SuSE Linux ENTERPRISE Desktop so i think we can excuse them for not having multimedia capabilities (in a way, that's better than windows which has media player in it's enterprise server products =/)
Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?

SLED 10 and Multimedia
Well I am still on rc3 just getting the Disk burned today, so I can try it out. then in a couple of days my box set should be coming

One thing that I felt that should be included is the qt3-odbc for QT Designer I had to get that off the SLES10 disk. I sure hope that it was included.
- 07-19-2006 #5With the ATI and Nvidia Drivers they can be retrieved automatically through Yast. But before you can get them the SLED O/S has to be registered first, then you can get them. it is a pretty sweet tool. I had XGL configured for about 99 desktops, and no hiccups. this is a truly unique release, and I have not been dissapointed.

Well the Install will have to wait
Was on my last DVD-R and the burn was bad. even though I know the checksum was good. I will have to wait till I get my media kit. So Stay tuned I will get it installed and give you my review on how it runs. If you have any questions on it. please feel free to ask, I will do my best to answer them. also I will be creating a website on my personal one. gonna get that done today sometime. it will have a review of SLED 10 on their.
Thank God I am a Linux Geek. I am posting this from my SLES 10-rc3 Server.
I know.. a big no-no. but just thought I would quickly keep you guys in the loop.

SLED 10 is installing now, Found another Disk
Yep... Just trying this disk now, it burned successfully, just waiting for the install to start. i really like the option on the install if you have extra software that you want to install it will let you.. Default root partition is 10.0 GB, default swap is 2GB and well home is the rest. me thinks I will be changing that

Darn..... Still no qt3-mysql package. For all that is looking for this package it is on Disc 4 of SLES 10-rc3, and use Yast2 to install it. installs without a problem (at least in the rc3 version anyway)
anyway it is installing as we speak. so if you have questions on SLED10 please feel free to ask it here. and I will answer the questions on my review.
