My super ex gf
Clerks II
The first movie was a disappointment (since when emasculation is a funny thing?) but the second one was terrific... None of these movies are suitable for you to go with kids...
Clerks II was fantastic and it had a message which I appreciate...-D-

Did Kevin Smith do Clerks II? Interesting...I love his films.
The last three movies I saw were Superman Returns, Pirates of the Carribean II and The Wind That Shakes The Barley.
Superman dissapointed a lot of people but I loved it, Pirates was great though maybe a tad long for all those restless brats at the cinema, and The Wind That Shakes the Barley was...well for an Irish person it can be very emotional.
How did My Super Ex Girfriend play - was there any redeeming qualities? I'm curious to see it. Although I figure I will be dissapointed, it's another chance to have those great nachos at Dundrum. Mmmm. Nachos.

I've seen most of Kevin Smith's films (minus Chasing Amy) so I figured it was expected that I see Clerks II. I was underwhelmed. It wasn't bad by any means, but there were lots of slow areas and I'm really getting tired of Jay and Silent Bob. Smith could use some new material, IMO.
There were points in the movie where Dante and Randall tried to have serious, heart-to-heart conversations and I just found myself waiting for the punchline. When none came, I was disappointed and very much bored. Dante and Randall never had much depth, and I wasn't interested in their characters having any. I just wanted them to be funny. There were some funny parts, but the whole movie just stank of "Typical Hollywood Romantic Comedy", which is the very thing Smith used to rail against. A rental, in my opinion.Registered Linux user #270181

I dunno: I thought Clerks II was really good and funny. But I haven't seen Clerks, so maybe it was very out of character for Dante and Randall. I've seen several of his films, and I've always liked them, and Clerks II was no different.
Lessee...I last saw Clerks II, Superman Returns, PotC II, yeah. I rather enjoyed them all: I actually liked PotC II a lot more the second time I saw it than the first, and it was real good. Superman, well, I haven't seen any of the other Superman movies, but overall I thought it was good, though the special effects whenever the Man of Steel was in flight weren't so great: his body and face looked so CGI. Apparently it was his actual face, but it was just off to me.DISTRO=Arch

- 07-25-2006 #5I'd recommend seeing the original Clerks. It's not Smith's best, IMO, but I liked the original better than number two. Perhaps it's just because the original felt more like a low-budget college film (which it was IIRC), which worked for the plot. The new one just felt to me like a shiny high-budget version of a low-budget college film. Let me reiterate, I didn't think Clerks II was bad, just not as good as I'd hoped.

I didn't like Chasing Amy either... Really bad... I haven't seen Clerks so I have no had the benefit of a comparison. Jay and Silent Bob are funny but I can understand why can they get old.
I am not planing to see Superman nor PotC... Not my kind of movies anymore...
Da Vinci code was stupid and Hanks was a bad choice for that role (as was Ron Howard...)-D-

- 07-26-2006 #7About the most interesting part of the night I saw the Da Vinci Code was seeing the religious protestors out in front of the theater. It gave me a chuckle.

It always cracks me up. The 'factual' book that Da Vinci Code based a lot of its ideas on - The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail - received less protests though it was quite controversial. Most people disregarded it as nonsense. Then a fictional novel comes out and everybody gets their drawers in a twist. Go figure.

There's convincing evidence that the "facts" in Holy Blood, Holy Grail were completely fabricated by a crazy Frenchman trying to make it look like he was part of the Merovingian bloodline. The most damning (pardon the pun) evidence was that his co-conspirators pretty much admitted to sitting around with him and helping him make it up.

Regardless of religion, christianity and factuality, that movie was bad. First of all the cast was not chosen right:
Tom Hanks is just not credible as an expert professor. He is more suited for other roles and in this one if you make him wear an apron you get a perfect hamburger boy with the right haircut... Seriously, visualize it and you will see what am I talking about.
Alfred Molina: Just what was doing Kevin Arnold's dad here? Horrible choice for a bishop... Sure, he is fat and all but what a lame performance...
Jean Reno: Well casted but how was he supposed to act with that script? What a predictable, boring character... Jean Reno is good and I like him kicking ass in other movies but here he was just lame.
Ian McKellen: Good job... Very well done...
Paul Bettany: Awesome as Silas! I think that it was the best performer in the movie but then again who would not have fun portraying a character killing a bunch of people in a movie (come on, you know what am I talking about)?
The worst was definitely that French chick... What a lame performance...
In my humble opinion Ron Howard is not right for this controversial movie and he didn't exploit the right angles:
* Persecution scenes in little streets with a police cars with whining sirens (wa we! wa we! wa we!)
* A more thorough photographic study of the surroundings (it was the L'Ouvre (sp?) for crying out loud! It was France!) and works of art... The movie could have been a postcard but these morons insisted on poor dialogue...
See? And I didn't even have to get into the debate of Christianity because the movie sucks badly!-D-
