I pretty much agree as well. It works, sometimes, on some games, on some computers running some distros, but other times it doesn't. It's better than nothing, but definitely not reliable enough to *replace* MS Windows for any serious gamer.

I haven't booted my desktop system (with XP or Linux) in over a month, and I'm in the process of borrowing out most of my PC games to my little brother. I'm trying to get out of the upgrade loop that happens with PC gaming. It's amazing how much money you have left over when you *don't* upgrade your computer every 6 months.

As a side bonus to this, I've successfully broken my last tie with Windows XP since I no longer game on the desktop machine. One day I might toss out my XP SP2 disc and CD Key.... one day.

I have not upgraded my PC much in the last few years. I also save some major amounts of money however that money goes into my RC airplane hobby I am happy with my Desktop running slackware its solid and i can do most everything i did in windows. i have one thing i still need windows for and i dont think that will ever change is my RC Flight simulator. i have in fact written the company asking them to port but i get the generic response that they dont support linux. believe it or not there are alot of guys in the RC Groups forums that use linux as well so i am not the only Airplane junky that uses linux. Maybe one day the other companies will get off thier butts and port to multiple platforms.

That's kind of surprising, considering a lot of Linux users consider themselves "hobbyists" as well. You'd think some good will from one form of hobbyist to another would be good PR. One day, perhaps.

I also must agree with the article. While I've never had a problem installing Cedega, I've only ever been able to get one game to work flawlessly and that was Counter Strike - Condition Zero. Other games will run but not w/o hiccups or a whole lot workarounds.

    I miss Loki

Yeah we got totally ripped off on the Counter Strike issue. There used to be a linux port. I can't seem to find an America's Army port any more either. Ghey.

I ran HL2/Steam under cedega before but it was a lot of effort. Steam is a fussy piece of kit. I actually despise the whole thing. What's wrong with playing the game on a box with no net connection?

    Yep, it got quietly canned.

Agreed. I boycotted Valve when they started Steam. I won't support a company that introduces copy protection measures that only annoy the people who legally purchase the software. I also refuse to support a company that actively thumbs their noses at people without broadband internet access.

that sucks about americas army i had thought about trying that one too. Companies in the vain and fleeting attempt to keep people from pirating they destroy the relationship with the customers they do have. you shouldnt have to have a net connection to do anything. somepeople are plainly content with not having internet at home. Most are safer, with the virii and hackers, because of it.
