IS this why i should go for Open-source? (there is no place for this post srry)

microsoft(windows2000) monopolized the computer market. This is outrageous. Closed-source programs (non-free, and can't edit) have the majority of the market. Only Unix and Linux have remained open-souce (free, and allowed to edit). Open source programs usually have a bsd or gnu license. Once monopolizes the market, computer operating system prices will soar. Windows XP pro. already $200-300USD. The next windows, windows vista is going to cost even more. The more money microsoft makes, the more part of the operating system market microsoft owns. That will mean that prices will rise and people without the money to buy windows will not be able to have a computer. Many peole are amble to buy the hardware of a computer but are unable to buy windows because of its simplicity. This is why millions are turning to open-source programs. It is true that people are able to get windows software easily for free illegally but that is wrong. Open-source makes almost everything everything (99.99%) free so that you can have as much software as you want as long as your computer is able to support it.

What's your question? Point? You seem to be making an anti-MS tirade, which is filled with inaccuracies btw(if you think Open Source is somehow "free" to operate and maintain, ask a sysadmin - they'll lol), but not much else.

MS is a business, they have shareholders, their job is to make money. Open Source isn't, it isn't even a single company, like MS it has it's strengths and weaknesses and works quite well in a lot of areas. End of story. Making rah-rah rants against MS doesn't help anyone, and makes the Open Source movement look more like a bunch of fanboys. I use it cuz it works. Well.

Choosing linux because of the price is one good reason but there are many more reasons for choosing free software.

Can't argue that the price factor is the most attractive part of Free Software concept. But I only come to think about migrating my computer habit since it has more immortal characteristic than proprietary softwares, preparing my own future in desktop area, in other words. If one dead, someone will fork it and revive it. Also there's no boundary on how advanced a FOSS will go. IF there're great ideas among the community, the developers won't mind adding it right away. Blahblah whatever. That's just my opinion tho.

Then go into a football stadium and tell people there. You don't have to convince us of using Linux (and about how bad MS is). We use Linux since quite some time, in case you didn't notice (see my sig).

I believe it's true to say that you don't have to despise Microsoft in order to use Linux (as others have indicated) ^ . It's hard to find the motivation to carry on with something if you're doing it out of dislike for something else ... Just my 2 pence worth.
