Well, MP3 a lossy music compression, so no, I don't think there's any way to convert the music without degrading the sound. If you're interested in lossless compression, check FLAC out (Free Lossless Audio Codec).

Mini-disc itself uses ATRAC, another lossy compression so it will never be the exactly lossless. If you want a "perfect copy" of the sound as it is now use FLAC. However, if you pick a bit rate mp3 of ogg if you won't hear that much difference.
