    Opinions on the Oxygen Project.

I'm a huge KDE buff and KDE 4 looks like it will be pretty amazing. The Oxygen Project is making new icons for KDE 4 and is trying to break away from the "cartoonish" look of KDE. I quite like the look of KDE as it is now.... overly shiny. They are trying to make icons more photorealistic. To me this seems like they're just ripping off of Mac OS X. What are your opinions?

*shrug* Icons look nice, but I just really don't care all that much about my themes in KDE. If a folder icon looks like a folder, I'm good.

I don't care much about my icons, but those look nice. I think I'll give them a whirl when they're released.

it looks nice, although I am more of a fan of The Tango Desktop Project. It doesn't limit itself to KDE, and it currently has usable icons (they are what I am using currently).

I like them a lot. They do ahave a little whiff of Mac from them but they're not a clone anyway. I used the Tango icons for a while. All of the principles and recommendations for icons they have seem to be the best suggestions I've heard so far for icon design, but to be honest I wasn't crazy on the results (albeit just the current state of development). I'm really looking forward to KDE4, it will be nice to see these icons in their home environment. I hope someone does make them available for Gnome too.

August now, doesn't that mean only two-three months to KDE4 technology previews?

they're a massive improvement over the curent default kde icons. having said that, they still look awful in my eyes. i'm not overly keen on tango either, although they do look better than oxygen. oxygen look like a rip-off of tango, so i can only presume that its an attempt to give both kde and gnome a more compatible look.
