What linux FS do you use
In your primary distro. What is your FileSystem?
I've always just stuck with REISERv3 just because that was what SuSE 8 installed when I first came to Linux. I’ve heard good things about JFS recently though so I’m giving it a thought

ext 3 and reiser 3 for me...want to try reiser 4 but, eh, maybe eventually. JFS looks good also, nice article.

Reiser 4 (Linspire)
Ext 3 (Arch)
NTFS (XP)
The BSD FS (PC-BSD)
Fat32 (External HD)
They all do the job they need to do - and that's good enough for me =)10" Sony Vaio SRX99P 850MHz P3-M 256MB RAM 20GB HD : ArchLinux

i use Reiser3 for my laptop, but i use XFS for my desktop partitions. my preference is for XFS, but laptops can lose power a little too easily for XFS to be safe.
Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?

Mostly it depends on the default the distribution I'm installing uses. Only in rare cases do I change it. Because of this it's generally Reiser3 and EXT3.

Grew up with ext2 and ext3, always sticked to ext3 since then. Extremely well tested, extremely stable and good to recover in case something fails unexpectedly.

ext3 is famed for it's stability. xfs/jfs seems to have moved ahead in terms of speed and cpu optimisation.
But like most as long as the one you're using doesn't give you any problems just use and enjoy (whats a few milli-seconds between friends

Always Reiser 3, unless it's for the boot partition. I don't like to mess around with that so I'll use ext3. I really like Reiser, I even have my external backup drive formatted in that. I look forward to v4, but I'm starting to become curious about JFS and XFS.
- 09-01-2006 #9I'm using Reiser3 for my main partitions, and ext3 for my shared Windows/Linux space. I'd like to move to Reiser4 once it gets into the mainstream kernel, once I need to replace my filesystem.
