    Yes that's the accent! The actor did a good job of it too. He actually fooled me into thinking he was from Gloucestershire or thereabouts.

    I think the accent thing comes from Robert Newton's portrayal of Long John Saliva (deliberate mistake) in the 1950s version of Treasure Island.
