How to ruin Steve Ballmer's skiing holiday

One way is to migrate to Linux.

Woo! I live in Birmingham. No, I'm not anti-MS. In fact I wish Steve luck: break a leg Steve ...

Its great to see these high profile switches. It should help to accelerate and promote linux adoption. That said I believe Novell still have a large number of Windows machines which they haven't migrated to SUSE yet. Those guys really should be trying harder!

The article I linked to is pragmatic, pointing out that 100% migration wasn't possible and that migration costs are rising. Still, it's an interesting move; I first heard about this two years ago and assumed that Munich had gone ahead and completed their switch.

I'm going to try to find out more about the Birmingham migration. It might not be so easy to do that, but worth a go. In Birmingham there's a company called Open Advantage which - I think - has some academic support and funding. They provide business support for companies wishing to migrate to open source. I'm assuming that they would be first in line for Birmingham Council to approach for advice about this.

The software giant also tried to tempt the government with a range of deals and discounts.
    LOL, microsoft always does that!
my country's government was supposed to start migrating to linux in 2004, and then suddenly and out of nowhere gates visits the prime minister and offers to give free computer lessons to 1 million portuguese. to this day i still haven't seen anyone getting free computer lessons from MS, and the linux project was scrapped
