/quit button?
Hey, I am just wondering. I am leaving the forums, and as I know I will not be coming back. Is there a cancel membership button?
I know a few others are looking for the same thing. Just wondering?

I do not think that an OpenSource pushing forum, should use non-free software, and think that kind of promotion is wrong. As do I think the IntelliAds thing is wrong. I do not need LFDO ejaculating all over my screen, with adverts from MicroSoft Corp. This is where my main disagreement lies. With future plans for LFDO. So I bid thee farewell.
Hopefully a user can inform me of my above question. As then I can terminate my membership, as can the others who want to.
Thanks.

I think I can probably speak for a lot of us when I say we're sorry you feel that way and we'll certainly miss you, but if that's what you've decided we wish you the best.
As for the state of this forum, I disagree. I happen to think the forum is still quite friendly, and although the mods (myself included, perhaps most of all) have gotten too big for our britches from time to time, we always come around with a swift kick (or just a firm reminder) from the other members.
I cannot comment on the use of non-free software because to me it's an irrelevant issue, and I block most of the ads on the site through my browser, so they are not intrusive to me. Best of luck, wherever you end up.Last edited by techieMoe; 10-02-2006 at 07:09 PM.

I think it's rather sad to see you leave, and I respect your opinion. As for the ads, I've said it before, they are quite needed for these forums to remain, and we are not the ones who choose what ads we want to put, the company that serves us these ads does. As you'll be leaving, I guess you'll also be leaving the content team as well...

I'm sorry to see you go, Andy-from-across-the-pond. I agree, this forum has changed drastically in the last few years. But change isn't necessarily a bad thing. Did I prefer this site when it was small enough to not need as many ads to support it? Of course. But I think that the site has grown, that we need ads to support running it. And I think that to do otherwise, and let such a thriving community die, would be reprehensible. There are definitely cons, but I feel that the pros outweigh them heavily.
It was fun while it lasted, hope I still see you on IRC.

I shall be sorry to see you go. Can I have your post counts? Kidding! Good luck and have a nice life.

It comes as a surprise..
i am surprised you feel this way. i haven't really noticed any adds here. And i know there are a some people who can be jerks, there are bound to be at least a few everywhere.
Yesterday i was thinking of how nice this forum is compared to any other forum i've been on. The majority of people are friendly and do want to help eachother. The people who are disrespectful tend to leave the forums quickly after their questions aren't answered. Usually it's due to there reputation.
i have seen your name around and am sure you have helped me at one point or another. Thanks for doing so, i am very sure you've replied to one of my posts. Enjoy using Linux and have fun wherever you end up.

I'd like to echo the above sentiments: while I do disagree about the poor state of this forum, if that's the way you feel, then I wish you the best in whatever you do. I've seen your posts around, and you're a good guy, so yeah. Farewell.

Andrew,
You've always been a friendly and recognizeable face, err username, on these forums. Its this community that will loose out when members of your quality are forced to leave because of moderators' heavy-handedness locking every other post (&c., this is happening more and more, I've had a few harmless opinion posts deleted with no explanation, and even been ordered to do two completely opposite things by two different moderators); the newbishness of many users does not bother me because they are in fact new and rtfm does many times need clarification; and, the microsoft ads have been getting me ever since they started (I've had two entire threads that I've started deleted in the coffee lounge for mentioning this, deleted with no explanation why to me either by post or pm). I agree with your non-free argument, there is definately a substantial loss of integrity in promoting something that one does not use oneself.
Take care, and give us post if you can find a new oss/*nix/whatever online community that can be what this was ever so recently.
I hope, though for the sake of this community, that few other longterm users, contributors, community members leave lfdo. With all of its faults, that should be addressed, this is still the best that I've found.
John
