    Back after a break

    Hi Guys,
It's been a long time since I last visited (the last time was just after the Big Change to vBulletin that got some people very worked up ).

Just wanted to say HI, and to warn you that I'm starting to put together my own machine for the first time, so I'll be back to ask questions when it dies horribly

I'm thinking of putting together a AMD X2 64 4600+ system, on a MSI mobo with an NVIDIA chipset, and a RAID 0+1 hdd configuration. :drown: Whatcha think?

Hope you guys are well, and I hope some of the old faces are still around!

Wecome back, smolloy. And less of the 'old' thank you... we're just 'more distinguished' these days.

That system looks pretty cool. Are you sure you need raid? Or are you doing it just to say you've done it? If it were mine, I'd be more keen to get a top video card rather than muck about with raid.

Thanks guys! Looks like Fingal is more content with his age than Roxoff

I don't think I'm gonna spend a lot on a video card, as I'm not much of a gamer. A RAID is a better idea for me (I think -- comments welcome ) as I run a lot of physics code that needs a lot of disc access. RAID 0+1 would give me a pretty fast system with a good solid backup.

I'm also doing it for the same reasons I installed LFS on my last machine -- a learning experience, and to say that I did it!
