My grandparents came to America from another country. Voting is one of the things that has been indoctrinated into my deepest core. As always the first thing I do after leaving my apartment in the morning is to go and vote so as to not make my dead relatives start spinning in their graves.

Someday, maybe, the best leaders available may run for office.

Can I ask which country? I only ask because I don't think it was Ireland. We don't vote, just make sure that we're sinking a pint when the results are released. It's the best way to complain about them

I voted this morning. I feel obligated to exercise this right, and subscribe to the 'If you don't vote you have no right to complain' school.
I did try out one of the new touch screen machines today out of curiosity.
    It was OK.

    United States Congressional elections.

Today all 435 seats in the House, and 33/100 seats in the Senate are up for grabs.

It's a big election season because the Democrats (generally left-leaning) have a slight chance to take Congressional power (50%+ seats) from the Republicans (generally right-leaning) for the first time since 1995ish. Most analysts predict that Democrats will take the House, but Republicans will keep the Senate. Even so, most people are watching this one close.

As a CNN guest put it - "The Democrats are nervous and the Republicans are worried."

Well you can stop being nervous now, they've got a majority.

Ok. The election is over... and I'm a little leery about leaving this thread here since it is a kind of obvious violation of the rules. I'm glad we managed to talk about things civilly and thanks to everyone who posted their thoughts without getting on any soapboxes. I'll leave the thread with my parting comic:
