    ide vs. e-ide

I've been meaning to purchase a DVD burner, and I think I've found a pretty good match. The only possible issue I see is that it's listed as an E-IDE device, and I'm not sure if it's compatible with my motherboard. My motherboard is a good 2 1/2 years old; so I guess the real question is: Is E-IDE backwards compatible?

    Thanks!

Yeah EIDE is backwards compatible. No need to worry about that though - IDE and EIDE are often used in place of each other - EIDE was designed to support drives larger than 528MB. So you can see it has been a few years
