Usually the ads are put by a third party company, the site has virtually no control about the ads. But I'm sure that Micro$oft paid to be on that specific website.
This is the kind of company that do that www.adbrite.com

I've seen that happen a lot on Linux sites. Usually they have no control over the ads that are placed on their site so can't do much about it.

I think the best response is to install the FF NoScript plugin and adblocker and surf that way. I can't see ads on that site and so they're effectively useless.

If MS wants to pay (indirectly) linux sites for ads that I doubt ever result in a hit fine by me. Kinda of paying for their own killer

Then those ad sites arent helping the companies they serve very much....the websites should have the ability to choose a catagory of ads to have shown on their website...but i guess thats modern marketing huh?

This also might explain why micro$oft's marketting is so sucky. They market on Linux websites, their greatest rival ^^. But of course they could be sitting in their offices thinking "well if we market on Linux sites, maybe they will switch" which obviously shows that they don't know much about Linux advocates now do they? hahaha
