    Yep, been there done that! I also had a pretty outdated computer (actually 5 of them) and turned it into a "jukebox". I used slackware instead and had a script load mpg321 to play music from the console, nice thing about that is that I didn't need a monitor. I based mine on this little how-to: http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/MP3-Box-HOWTO.html except I didn't have it hooked up to a network and used an internal drive.

    Also, in my opinion you would have been better off using something like Geexbox, it requires less resources than Knoppix and is built for this type of stuff.
