Distro numbers

Hi Folks,

Does anyone have any reliable info on the size of the user base of various distro's?

Fedora Core starting tracking the IP addresses of users and was claiming 300,000 new installations of Fedora Core 6 by Nov.16.

What distro are you using ?? Why ??

You might be able to collate this information from http://counter.li.org, but generally concrete numebers would be hard to come by. The Fedora project will know how many downloads of their disks have been made, and they'll make assumptions about the installed base from that.

This is a question to which there is no conclusive answer.
Look here for the reason why.

Discussions about which distro and why will be locked.
Look here for the reason why (3rd post!).

Fedora Core's numbers aren't coming from downloads but by the number of unique ip's that check for updates. They're past 2 million for Fedora Core 6

Hmmmm, that's not very accurate. I have 4 FC6 machines hiding behind my static IP address. I wonder how they track dynamic IP addresses too?
