    Yes, the operating system is the same. The graphical interfaces look and act differently, but under the hood they're executing the same commands in the Linux kernel.

    THey do the same thing but the user tells it differently according to what they want?? Also whats KDE, cuz i looked at ubuntu on wiki and it looks more like a Mac GUI than they windows on in the PDF, it says ubuntu uses the GNOME..

    Whichis the one in the PDF, which one also lets u lock the computer, one or both??

    All desktop environments let you lock the computer, because all desktop environments on Linux use some version of the X Windows (X11) windowing system, and the X11 system allows you to lock the screen.

    U just do it a different way??? Anyways, I want the GUI that's in the PDF, cuz I like that one, I already said why, which one is that?

    That's KDE. Some distributions that come with KDE by default include Mepis, Kubuntu, Mandriva, and openSuSE. I suggest you try one of those (Mepis and Kubuntu can also be used as LiveCDs) and post back in the appropriate section if you have a specific question.

    This thread is getting out of hand with a lot of the same questions getting asked and answered multiple times, so I think it's best to lock it so we can all move on.

    I think I can speak for everyone when I say good luck with your Linux trials. As long as you don't run any of the harddrive installers you should be able to play around on the LiveCD distributions and get yourself used to the OS without any danger to the computer on which you run them.
