Agreed, I don't think anyone here wants people to be forced to live differently (that would be even worse). What I meant when I talked about different lifestyles is that people need to realize what's going on and voluntarily reduce their own environmental impact, like deciding to live in an apartment near a grocery store and bike to work. Believe me, I'm the last person to think that the government should have any say in people's lifestyles.

A car run on compressed air would be pretty cool.

Hmm... was poking around these posts and didn't see anyone promoting coerced change in lifestyle. Just a declarative statement that we might have to accept something different. than what we're used to.

LOL! In a way it's a 'no-brainer'. We're always going to change the way we live in response to something. For example, we no longer live like we did in the Middle Ages. In those days people had more immediate threats than climate change ... like The Black Death.

The trouble is people are so wedded to their lifestyles that change is seen as a threat. But what might get overlooked is that not changing can be a much bigger threat; for whatever reason on whatever scale.

    Exactly.

Yup - people weren't "coerced" into change their lifestyles, but changes happened. It'll be no different for us.
