X suse could be fedora next.

    Hi all,

Well firstly i have been caught out many a time by the time limit so i will not be able to fully express myself.

I am aware of the microsoft suse aliance and do not like it.

I have been using suse for 1 year on the first computer i have built with mostly new parts as the sole OS. I have several versions and a lot of books, one hundred pounds worth so i am a little miffed.

I briefly tryed ubuntu 5.10 before but did not get along with the multiverse univeres thing.

Q, What would fedora be like compared to suse,

    Nvidia ? i have

    Asus k8v-mx
    Asus nvidia n6200 agp
    512m crucial 3200/400
creative audigy2 ZS, (i gave up on this with suse as there was nio line in)

better leave it at the for now

Oops, i forgot i had my comp in the sig, So has any body got the same stuff working with fedora ?

How easy is to get further apps compared to yast,

    How about updates ?

What about the latest drivers for the graphic card ?

I only managed to get the lates on one of my suse distro's all the others had to do with the one in yast 76.76.

I will probably get the download tonight overnight but i would like to be prepared for any downfalls i might find.

The package manager in recent Fedora versions (5 and 6) is decent, my main complaint with it is that it won't install from the CDs. But if you've got a fast internet connection, that doesn't really matter...

I should probably get it out there that I hate yum, and I find it pretty hard to install many things.

Debian and Gentoo have the best package managers, by far. Besides that, you can install any Linux software on any Linux distro, so software availability should probably not be a big factor in deciding on a distro.

    Hi,

Thanks for youre reply's, Not sure weather i should bother putting the audigy back in though as i will need the line in, i am assuming that it will use the same (10EMKu, this is not exactly right for the driver name, im working from memory)

It's all a bit vague because my card is not actually listed on the driver site (alsa) so i don't no weather it shoud have worked or not.

I will have to start a new post because i have fallen at the first hurdle, download. the md5 sums do not match on either the i386 or 64 bit downloads, which i am gutted about as you can imagine.

Edit / downloads were ok, k3b generated false md5 sums. mediacheck showed them to be ok.

ps I am now using FC6_64, and have the i386 in reserve, which i might be using soon as i have already noticed the odd blinking of the curser. It did the same on suse_64.

First impresions are good though it is always exciting to try another distro.
