    Lightscribe

Any of you guys use Lightscribe or any of the other similar technologies?

I bought an LG dvd burner recently with it, and got the host and imaging software from LaCIE. I would have bought LaCIE but I couldn't get them locally. It's pretty cool, nice to have Linux OEM support too.

It takes about 20 minutes per disc, so it's only worth it for things you want to keep. It certainly makes my Ubuntu and openSUSE disks look a little less messy.

It's very cool ... I'd like one of those, even though I have no practical use for it. I can think of a few work applications though.

Well I wouldn't have bought it just for that, I had been thinking about buying another drive for burning on the fly. It cost me

Same here. I don't usually burn anything I plan on keeping more than a few months (backups, distros) and if I'm not mistaken you also have to buy special LightScribe (TM) compatible media, don't you?

Perhaps if I did archival backups... but even then it's not like I'm going to frame them and put them on display. Sharpie all the way.

My guess is the forum software can't display whatever character bigtomrodney is trying to post.

that must be what it is. Haha. What's the matter forum! Euro too rich for you!

Just kidding. It was a Euro symbol. I pay about 21 euro for 50 discs, and that same 21 euro gets me 30 lightscribe discs.

Phew! A lot of posting to get that trivial piece of info out!

I got lightscribe by chance when I bought a DVD burner last year; I didn't even know what it was at the time, and thought it was some new data burning feature (like Gigarec or something). When I realized what it was, I thought it was awesome. I only burned one disc using it (the media was pretty expensive then); a cool landscape picture I took in Cuba -- it looked cool.

I forgot about it after that; this post just reminded me.
