It's not any more or less "fake" than the facades people put on when they go to a bar.

It's an idea ... I found an ad there which read:
I cannot guarantee you’ll fall in love with me, but I can promise you the best home-brewed beetroot wine you’ll have ever tasted.
Hmmm ... strange indeed. Actually I scanned the personals columns of my local paper and under 'Women seeking men' it said, 'Male, 52, seeks woman ...' So I bet his day got off to an interesting start.

Yes, but this also goes both ways. At a bar if you meet someone you think is creepy they know you go there, your name (if you tell them or they ask around), and with some searching they can find out where you live, provided you go to a bar near your home.

With online sites you choose how much information to divulge and when, and if you get the weirdo vibe all they know about you is what you told them. Do what you like, I just don't think the reputation of online dating sites that some people ascribe to them is warranted.

Well, here we are more than four months later and only 1 female has voted in the poll (as of this post).

Come on ladies, I know we have more female members than that!

As an interesting side note... some of you that I thought were female turned out to be guys according to your posts.

    I am a man...

Besides dating and such, it would be fantastic to see more women around here in the forum. All in all I think people here are pretty decent and respectful and a lady shouldn't feel bad discussing banal matters or even Linux around here...
