    Curious why the UK is mentioned seperate from Europe... since it is a member of the EU. But I might be missing the obvious point here

    Most UK people know they're in Europe, but don't think that way ... It's an island mentality perhaps?

    Same here. We know we are part of the United States, but mostly just think of ourselves as South Carolinians first and foremost. The same sentiments are true for a large number of folks who live in Texas.

    Just as a random historical fact, Texas and California are 2 of the only states in the US that were once their own sovereign nation. For some Texans, we still are.
