If Microsoft send you an email, you can betcha life that it wont be from a 'hotmail' box (unless it's a hotmail admin message, of course...). Microsoft are much more inclined to use '.gov' addresses .

This looks like a standard lottery scam to me. I keep getting one supposedly from Coca Cola. AFAIK they none of them come from where they seem to; if you get involved with them, they just string you along and take your money. I have a friend who lost a lot of money on these scams so I now send any that I receive to the police online fraud office.
