Flintoff said this will be the best cricket series ever and he is right
. It will take England another 40 years to win back the Ashes and then there will be a lot of hype about how the Ashes is the best rivalry in world cricket and then probably England wont win for another 80 years
.
Sorry, if any body here is an English cricket fan, but this a true lesson not to over hype anything. Probably Oxford will add the synonym for over hype as THE ASHES in their 2007 dictionary ( in India they have done so).

who's surprised!!!!
c'mon !!
who really thought that we could keep the ashes anyway!?
The loss of vaughn was a big nail in the conffin before we even started and Flintoff should never have been captain in the first palce. Theres too much pressure on his shoulders as there is and then to add the captancy!!
THen add trescothic's problems!
But at least our strategy is now clear.....learn to bat (our openers have been woefull)
learn to bowl and learn to bat again!!!
But at least we can rely on the Rugby Union team.....oh wait a minute......." I didn't know it was a picture of his wife! I thought it was a publicity shot form Planet Of the Apes."

We're great at inventing games in this country ... and then losing them and agonising about it ever after. Maybe it's lack of confidence. I don't think it's a lack of raw talent or determination: we have plenty of that over here. But something seems to be missing.

I'm south african...Aussies just purely have talent to the bone when it comes to basically ANY sport! That includes rugby, cricket, swimming and a whole lot of other Olympic games...

I must say I predicted 3-1 to the Aussies but based on the indifferent performances since the last Ashes I'm not surprised by the 5-0.
Australia were brilliant. Even with Vaughan, Jones etc. I still think Australia would have won, just not by 5-0 (or at least not so comfortably)
- 01-05-2007 #8The English people didn't over-hype the series, I knew we had no chance, most cricket fans here thought we had no chance - personally, i'd have been surprised if England had won one of the games, but I did expect them to at least hold out for a draw a couple of times.

- 01-05-2007 #10Personally, I bloody hate our media. I stopped reading any kind of tabloid papers a long while ago. I've even given up watching TV, since we had no Sky TV at our house, we're not subject to crap journalism and US-style news-hype.

And you're right about the best team. I dont think, in terms of pure skill, the Aussies are 5-0 better than England, but the big advantage they have over everyone else is between their ears - they have so much more belief in their own ability than anyone else, something their sports academies have drummed it into them for years. You'd think some of the English and British sporting teams would have cottoned on by now, wuncha.Linux user #126863 - see http://linuxcounter.net/
