    Ready on the right

Three weeks ago this old this old man didnt have a clue about linux But I do have a very expensive DJ/KJ audio system which is digitally based.. After shifting to XP a year or two ago which is less efficient yet I thought lets see about linux.. \

I downloaded sarge and all 8 cd's and had one hell of a time even getting a screen Without google I would have given up To make a long story short I tried knoppix ububtu dapper and edgy someting called musix which showed me some DAW proggies and something called slax.. I finally tried PCLinuxOS which was the first one I made a lan with..

In the process I was trying to use codeweavers crossover to get my karaoke software emulated.. So I was fighting old well known windows probs and linux probs which I didnt haver clue about.

In yhe process I downloaded many packages and finally learnhed how to compile and install deb or rpm with mant errors My only inet access right now is a laptop propped on a speaker on a card board box next to the window and bootlegging off a college kids wifi (The Love Network) So using linux to use this connection was like going to the moon horse and buggy....

In the process I learned that it was easier to setup a lan with linux Wow!! I was sharing either wire or wireless between XP on the the laptop and a linux box...So far so good ... I finally found another one called PcLinuxOS..

It had a diswrapper that I got to work with the broadcom in the laptop So wow I was online linux..

So with adrenaline I called up a term.. Su password **** it took I was in...

Synaptic... The gui came up... The reload button was there not grayed or anything Just waiting.... I causishhly put the cursor on it Sighed and clicked the left button... A window popped up Downloading file 1 of 450 million...

A list popped up and even most of the packs in the musix live cd.. Wow here this is........ Ill never go back to windoze..

Ive done alot in my life but this was memorable when I could click the reload and it reloaded

    Congratulations!
I decided to try Linux when the hard drive on my 7 year old desktop died in June 2006. (too cheap to buy a new system) When I put the new hard drive in I couldn't see the point in putting Windows 98 SE on it seeing as MS had just dropped support for it and ME. I first tried Red Hat 9, which I had laying around. That worked well, so I upgraded to Fedora 5. Then in September, the Windows ME on my laptop became unuseable. It got Fedora 6. Linux works well for me, and like you, I'm not going back to Windows...ever.

How about this, I was 10 years old and wanted to host a stable counter strike server for me and my friends, after getting sick of windows ME I searched for an alternative, linux seemed to be my best choice, its been 5 years sense then, 4 years sense i started using it on my desktop as well. Its been a great ride and I love linux.
