    I have a burned iso from just before it started the pay thing. It was ok, seemed friendly enough. However, there was nothing I noticed that made me that excited. I don't understand why they don't make it FOSS (I am sure they have something their site addressing that, but since it is down......)

    As I recall, they very directly answer that question. It's a product that is being developed to be marked as a product for sale, just like any other product for sale.

    That's an excellent, honorable thing to do. It's just a shame that this particular product is going to have to compete with extremely excellent products that can be had (optionally, legally) for no cost.

    But the popularity of Windows suggests that a lot of people like the closed-source traditional business model, so maybe SkyOS will compete more directly with Microsoft than GNU/Linux even can. And maybe they'll make themselves a niche.

    One of my favorite business quotes was from Business Week back in the '50s. From memory it said, With over 50 models of domestic cars already available, the Japanese aren't likely to carve out much of a market here.
