    What happened to SkyOS?

SkyOS isn't Linux and it isn't even free software, but I've been marginally interested in it for some time. Not long ago I read an announcement somewhere that they plan to do a release this year.

But the website has been down for days! skyos.org

    Anybody know anything about it?

I was interested too for a while, but the whole "you must pay for a beta" thing sort of turned me off. There's no proof to anyone outside of their paying circle that any real work is being done, and without proof it's worth it less people are going to want to pay for it... That's just bad business in my opinion.

Not sure if it just came back up after you posted, but I can access http://www.skyos.org/.

It wasn't working at first here either, but is working now...

It still seems pretty dead from both my home and work networks.

There is so much excellent F/OSS stuff to choose from that the pay-for-a-beta deal does put me off a little. But I've read some good things about it and if it really is good (or if it will be) I sure don't mind paying, especially since this is my hobby.

Seems to be working intermittently here... I suspect that they've changed servers and it's taking a while for the new information to propagate. Maybe it'll come up for you later.

Evidently there is a 70% likely hood that SkyOS will be released in '07

If they offer a demo, I'll try it.

Hmm... I got in 3 times yesterday, but can't get back in since then. I'm not sure what's going on with their website.

I've been peeping on SkyOS too. But I think it's too ambitious. A different kind of OS outside unix and windows. As always, without enough software support it'll be rather useless.
